qzx movePath

What it does

Moves or renames one file, symbolic link, or complete directory; partial directory moves are rejected

Command maturity: Alpha

Available for real use and feedback while its interface and behavior can still evolve. This is the current development-checkout assessment. Every future immutable release tag preserves the exact assessment shipped by that version. Available in PyPI 0.2.2.0.6a11. This page documents the 0.2.2.0.6a11 alpha development checkout.

Safety and effects

Can mutate state

No documented dry-run parameter

No native program invocation in the current classification

No documented network use

Outcome may depend on permissions

Only complete directory moves are supported. Same-filesystem entries use rename; cross-filesystem regular files are staged and verified by size and SHA-256 before the source is removed. Cross-filesystem and finite-depth directory moves are rejected to avoid partial trees. Filesystem roots, special entries, and unsafe ancestor/descendant relationships are blocked before mutation. --force backs up and stages the previous destination.

Before mutation, QZX creates a recovery archive; --dangerously-bypass-approvals-and-sandbox/--yolo explicitly skips it.

This safety classification was reviewed by OpenAI Codex (authorized project audit) against implementation digest sha256:de463243a111c4c2ef7688211c6e4bd805eae5020dcfcc12d642c2e5ea59b5f3 on 2026-07-30.

Exact syntax

qzx movePath <source> <destination> [force] --json

Parameters

Swipe or use the horizontal scrollbar to see every column.

NameTypeRequiredDefaultDescription
sourcestrYesNot declaredPath to the source file, symlink, or directory
destinationstrYesNot declaredPath to the new filesystem location
forceboolNofalseReplace an existing destination after a safety backup

Input examples

qzx movePath source.txt destination.txt

Move or rename one file

qzx movePath myfile.txt archive/myfile.txt

Move one file into an archive directory

qzx movePath sourcedir destinationdir

Move one complete directory

qzx movePath sourcedir destinationdir --force

Back up and replace an existing destination with a complete directory

For the complete structured payload, add --json: qzx movePath <source> <destination> [force] --json

Representative output example

This illustrative JSON is derived from the current implementation-backed result contract. It shows what the command can return without claiming a recorded execution; values vary with inputs, host, permissions, and optional tools.

Example command: qzx movePath source.txt destination.txt --json

Errors and limits

The public contract requires success=false and a descriptive message on failure. This catalog does not yet declare a command-specific error taxonomy; inspect the result and do not invent error codes.

QZX is alpha software. Optional dependencies, permissions, and host capabilities can change the result.

Evidence workflow: requires a controlled privileged environment.

No command-specific test file with the same module name was found; this does not prove that all coverage is absent.
